Meet the Pastor

Pastor John

I am deeply devoted to the teachings of the Bible and my faith. I find great joy and fulfillment in studying and sharing the word of God with others. My passion for the community is rooted in my belief that we are all children of God and must support and uplift one another.

Through my work as a pastor at Perryville Baptist Church in Winnsboro, TX, I strive to create a space of love, acceptance, and unity within our community. It is my goal to guide and support those in need and to spread the message of love and compassion to all. I am honored and grateful to serve as a pastor to those in my community.

History of perryville Baptist

140 years of serving our Lord in Perryville, TX

June 1884: Church organized

Charter members for Perryville Baptist were W.F.Bailey, James M. Richards, S.M. Lindsey, Mr. L.T. Bailey and Mrs. Martha Cartwright. Missionary Baptist Church at County Line was chosen originally as the name for the church. The first meetings were held in the local school building.

July 1884: First service was held

Articles of Faith, Rule of Decorum in 1884 the Church Covenant were read and adopted.

Rev. J. O. Carnes was called as original pastor. Six new members joined at the first service. James Richards and S. M. Lindsey were ordained as the church’s first deacons. Mr. W. F. Bailey donated the land, and a frame building was erected.

June 1908

Name of the church was changed to Missionary Baptist Church of Perryville which was later changed.

1913 Building grew

We are using the original structure as our main building. In 1913, two wings were added to the building.

1927 Joins SBC

In 1927, the church joined the Southern Baptist Convention and became a member of the Pittsburg Baptist Association, now the Harmony-Pittsburg Association.

1976 Fellowship Hall built

In 1976 a fellowship hall was built onto the back of the building.

1982 New Sunday School building

The new Sunday School building was added in 1982. Additional additions include a gymnasium, Zelma Price Walkway, steeple, a van inside the new garage, baptistry with beautiful picture in the baptistry painted by a member, carpet with new peers throughout the sanctuary, lovely front porch, central air conditioning, and beautiful new windows throughout the sanctuary.

Many fine men have served as pastor of this church: Rev. Carnes, Holt, Tucker, Cannon, Spence, Petty, Arrington, Jenkins, Barnes, Autrey, P.G. Manness, Reed, Turner, Vaughn, Norris, Morris, Stotts, Buddin, David, Spearman, Randolph, Billy Joe Tate, H.V. Gray, Anderson, Johnson, Drake, Alvey, Wyatt Bradberry, Marion Coon, Leslie Mills, Danny Boler, Toby Goodman, and our current one, John Burk.

Faithful service has been given by many, such as current choir director, William (Bill) Cohen, our piano player, Marian Henson, wonderful Sunday School teachers, and a beautiful choir.

The church constantly helps people, including people outside the membership. For the past few years, the church provided over 200+ local families each month with food. Each Christmas approximately 100 boxes of toys are given to children globally, and financial support is offered to multiple Christian ministers who work globally and domestically.

Like Perryville Baptist church, the families give faithful and dedicated service to keep the wonderful church alive and make it what it is today!

Monthly Food Giveaway

Effort to help feed families

Over the past few years having enough money to buy enough food has become difficult.

To help once a month we give over 200+ families bags of food, drinks and other items to use around their home. Cars start lining up around 10:30 am and filling cars begin at 1:00 pm.

Members of the church volunteer their time to work several hours a month to organize the inputs, and on the 4th Saturday of each month they work hours to them giveaway.

We are blessed with many things, and it is our duty to share some of the blessings. We want to help provide food for those who may have fallen into hard times or not have enough money to buy all the food needed for their family.

We Support Missionaries Throughout World

Helps Us Align Our Hearts with God’s Heart

It is the command of God for people to be on a mission to preach and spread the Gospel. We support six missionaries every year-both in USA and globally.
Why? It’s a biblical command from 3 John 7-8.

  • We support and assist missionaries so they can fulfill their work
  • We know that faith comes only by hearing the word of God.
  • People who go out into the world to preach God offer additional services, such as education, health care, literacy, and economic development.

The missionaries we support send us communications on a regular basis. It lets us realize how important this job is and helps us smile.

Ministries We Support via Baptist Association
  • Annie Armstrong - Easter Offering benefits thousands of missionaries across the U.S. and Canada.
  • Reach Texas- Supports missionaries in the State of Texas.

We also provide support to individual missionaries in Wyoming and the Ukraine.

Successful Women’s Event

Attend our Annual Ladies Banquet

Women have busy lives daily. They manage their families, households, work and multiple additional activities throughout the year.

Once a year Donna Burk, the minister’s wife, prepares and presents a dinner for women with an inspirational guest speaker.

We break bread in a wonderful meal sitting with women and share the God’s Word with our conversations. Also, each year an invited female speaker not only offers new ideas and suggestions but is an inspiration.

Together we celebrate sisterhood, womanhood and just being female while we are having fun. We learn things and come home being warmer and enjoy just being a woman.

Enjoy Celebrating Christmas Globally

Gifts Inspire Children

We enjoy helping children who are in less fortunate situations globally. Each year we participate with Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child. We send our 100 boxes full of toys and items for children and teenagers globally.

We want to impact not only the children but their families and communities too. We donate toys, books and gifts to help inspire hope and joy.

Happiness and excitement is not only received by the recipients, but also brings joy to our church.
